About Sports Massage

What is Sports Massage?

Sports massage is a deep form of soft tissue mobilisation which can be applied in a sporting and non-sporting context. It involves a wide range of techniques and is used for general relaxation of the muscular skeletal system as well as being directed towards any problem areas. Sports massage helps relieve muscular tension, break down adhesion’s, mobilise soft tissues and reduce pain.

Who should be treated?

Although the name implies a sporting clientele, it is a massage treatment appropriate to all. Sports massages are not limited to athletes! It is an appropriate massage treatment for anyone who needs a remedial or soft tissue mobilisation. The remedial effects of sports massage are beneficial post-surgery, alongside physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic, or as a health benefit within an office environment. Within a sporting context, people who participate in sport can use a sports massage as a regular part of their training programme. Sports massage is also effective as a performance enhancement.

Therapist

I have been working as a Sports Massage Therapist since 2020 after studying for my Level 3 Diploma in Sports massage with Cornwall College.
I then went on to do my Level 4 Diploma again with Cornwall College.

Since qualifying I have been working with The Wellness Hub in Falmouth, Cornwall. A wonderful collection of amazing people who all want to help others be better, whether in mind, body or soul. They include Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Hypnotherapists, Psychotherapists, Life Coaches, Councellors, Massage Therapists, Reflexologists, Herbalists, Bowen Therapists and many other disciplines.

I find it incredibly rewarding to help clients regain freedom from the pain and discomfort that is often caused by the effects of life, work and exercise on our musculoskeletal systems. Previous careers have given me a first hand understanding of how our bodies are affected by repetitive movements at work. I draw on these experiences to help figure out how your body is being held badly causing dysfunction and possible injuries.

As part of my membership and insurance with the FHT (Federation of Holistic Therapists) I am required to continue to grow and develop as a therapist. Meaning I can keep bringing the best help to my clients.
